The May Wellness Centre is dedicated to individual wellbeing – but what exactly does wellbeing mean?
Wellbeing is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as
“The state of being comfortable, healthy, or happy.”
and gives an example of
‘an improvement in the patient’s well-being’
Being comfortable, healthy or happy is a very broad field and there are a lot of factors which can lead to improved wellbeing. These can include:
- Relationships – partner, close family and good friends for a sense of belonging
- Economic factors – adequate financial security
- Work or purpose – enjoyable and fulfilling career or other role in life
- Healthy lifestyle – regular exercise and a good balanced diet
- Healthy mind and body – good physical and mental health
- Sleep – to feel rested and energised
Of course, some of these factors are out of our control and the loss of that sense of wellbeing can be quite detrimental to a person’s contentment and health.
When that happens, it is important to recognise the issues and see what you can do about them, whatever they are. Sometimes you may be able to ‘self-help’ by using that network of relationships, changing jobs or going back to basics on diet/exercise.
Sometimes it’s OK to ask for a bit of help.
The May Wellness Centre’s mission is to care for body, mind and skin.
Our team of professionals have a range of services that might help.
